Lenovo had access to all sorts of usb-c to hdmi adapters during the development of the 920. The computer just came out a few weeks ago and the adapters have been around since atleast 2.5 years ago when the redesigned MacBook adopted usb-c. The whole point of a standard is that the peripheral manufacturuer and computer company do not need to specifically test their products together, both build to the standard and it should work. External HD won't detect with Sata to USB adapter? Suggestions would be appreciated:). It will sometimes connect but won't show up in Disk Management. In External USB2 HDD attached to Mac. Nov 6, 2018 - If the cable from your external device doesn't connect to the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) or USB-C port on your Mac or iPad Pro, you might need an adapter. 2 cable with a Mini DisplayPort display, this solution won't work. The 'handshake' and 'new technology' excuses are non-sense. Both my MacBook Pro and iPad use adapters (based on usb standard) for HDMI and VGA video output. Both are able to output to multiple displays (monitors, TVs, projectors, etc.) reliably and without issue. There is no need to plug in a specific order or restart the display or device after attachment. This is a software issue that is fully in the hands of Lenovo. I'll test out the additional 6 adapters I ordered and report back here with some real information. If none of those work reliably, the 920 is going back to Lenovo until they can figure out this 'new' usb technologly they have been putting in their laptops for multiple generations. I don't think any computer manufacturer wants to guarantee their machine works with every third-party device that's out there. But you can't tell me dongle-makers had access to 910 and 920s when they designed those dongles 3-4 years ago. So, they work with Macs. Any new dongles will have the benefit of being tested with current computers. Those dongles will hit the market in a year or so. It's just the way the process works, my friend. As for HDMI handshaking, the fact mine works every time I connect it in the way I describe verifies my argument. But it sounds to me like you'd be happer with a Mac to begin with. I wish you well any direction you go. Happy Thanksgiving. Adobe acrobat mac download. I don’t want the 920 to work with every adapter, just one, any one. I’d hope the one made by Lenovo would function and was disappointed it didn’t. For my business I use both Macs and PCs and need to present from both. I am not ‘happier’ with my Mac, it just so happens that in this one area (connecting to an external display) the Mac works reliably and the 920 does not. Making excuses by blaming the peripheral manufacturer or handshaking does not solve the problem. I am looking for a way to reliably connect the 920 to a display, not to get in any argument about platforms. Doctordon, I appreciate your attempt to help but the information you provided brings me no closer to addressing the original issue. I’ll report back soon with an update, either I’ll find an adapter that works or the 920 goes back in favor of a PC with a built in HDMI port. Wrote: I tried to uninstall the lenovo's official display driver completely and install general intel UHD 620 driver. After install intel driver, I opened 'device manager' and run display driver update. Now, my YOGA 920 display driver version is 22. With intel corporation, USB-C to HDMI is correctly working. (Lenovo travel dock and AUKEY USB-C Hub) 1.PC turn off. 2.Connect Hub with display 3.PC turn on. If YOGA 920 go to sleep or shutdown, it worked correctly then wake-up however PnP USB-C Hub with powered on YOGA 920 cannot work correctly. Thank you takeota, I found your post on reinstalling the display drivers to be the most helpful in getting a consistent result. I had very similar results as you but also took some notes with a variety of configurations just to get a better feel for what works and what doesn't. Basically, PnP works on Apple devices but not on the 920, using HDMI cables that are not high speed can give inconsistent results when connecting to a 4K display, and some adapters adapters are completely incompatable with certain devices (but mostly they all work the same with a given device/cable/display combination). All tests were conducted with the display on and the intended input selected prior to connection. THANK YOU to everyone contributing so far to researching this issue. I'm experiencing the same problems, and was about the ship back an adapter I purchased when oneoffsuit's instructions to disconnect and reconnect at boot worked. I'm able to make a CableCreation CD0411 USB-C to VGA/HDMI adapter work with the process described.
